Here’s some great news! On the subject of being confident, which really leads to being happy and fun-loving too, right? - – here’s some information about how fitness relates to school and academics.
Reading and math scores can be increased by up to 10% according to a Florida study called S.M.I.L.E. (sensory motor intensive learning environment). The study showed that children doing an activity such as gymnastics once per week, reading and math scores could go up by 10%!
There is a connection between the muscular and neurological systems that is now becoming more noticed. By keeping children active you will give them a great advantage in life both physically and mentally!
Here are some ideas that you might like to implement to help keep your child active in a fun way:
1/ Jog or skip with you to the mail box and back every day
2/ During every TV commercial to 10 jumping jacks – keep track and see how many you do after each program
3/ Do a short version of a marathon – - when seting the table, time yourself each time and see if you can beat your last time. (Be careful not to go too fast and hurt yourself).
4/ Do this again when clearing the table (your Mom or Dad will love you for helping too)
5/ Make up a short welcome dance and use it every time someone comes to your house like your Mom or Dad coming home from work or grandma or grandpa coming to visit.
